Basalt fiber! A treasure made from stone!

Basalt fiber is a continuous fiber drawn from natural basalt. It is a continuous fiber made by melting basalt rock at 1450℃~1500℃ and then high-speed drawing through a platinum-rhodium alloy spinneret. It has similar silicate to natural minerals and is biodegradable in the environment after being discarded, causing no harm to the environment.

Research on continuous basalt fiber (CBF) in China began in the mid-1990s. China has listed basalt fiber as one of the four key fiber development areas (carbon fiber, aramid, ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, and basalt fiber), and has achieved industrial-scale production.

Characteristics of Basalt Fiber

① High strength;
② Electrically insulating;
③ Corrosion resistant;
④ Flame retardant;
⑤ Good chemical stability;
⑥ Low thermal conductivity;
⑦ Strong acid and alkali corrosion resistance;
⑧ High elastic modulus and tensile strength;
⑨ High and low temperature resistance, -260℃ to 880℃, short-term temperature resistance above 1000℃, can be used for a long time in a temperature environment of 760℃.

Applications of Basalt Fiber

Basalt fiber is used in fiber-reinforced composites, friction materials, shipbuilding materials, thermal insulation materials, automotive industry, high-temperature filter fabrics, and protective applications.

Application of basalt fiber in functional clothing: Basalt fiber fabric can be dyed and printed after chemical dyeing and finishing.

Clothing that can be made from basalt fiber fabric includes: firefighter fire protection suits, thermal insulation suits, fire-resistant suits, furnace front worker protective suits, electric welding work suits, and flame-retardant suits for crew members of military armored vehicles.
