Meta-aramid composite base fabric felt used for insulation and heat preservation blankets in metallurgical steelmaking pipelines

Meta-aramid composite base fabric felt is a high-performance material made by needling meta-aramid fibers into a non-woven fabric and reinforcing it with a base fabric (woven fabric).

Characteristics of meta-aramid composite base fabric felt:

1. Heat resistance and flame retardancy

Long-term heat resistance: Can be continuously used at 200°C without performance degradation.

Short-term high-temperature resistance: Can withstand short-term high-temperature impacts from 250°C to 400°C without melting or dripping.

High Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI): Usually above 28%, meaning it is difficult to sustain combustion in air and self-extinguishes when removed from the flame source. This is the basis for its use as a fireproof material.

2. Thermal stability and dimensional stability

Extremely low shrinkage at high temperatures; unlike many synthetic fibers, it does not melt, soften, or deform, maintaining its original shape and thickness to ensure long-lasting thermal insulation and sealing effects.

3. Insulation properties

Electrical insulation: Has very high dielectric strength, suitable for electrical insulation in high-temperature environments.

Thermal insulation: The fluffy porous felt structure contains a large amount of still air, making it an excellent thermal insulator that effectively blocks heat transfer.

4. Chemical stability

Good resistance to most organic solvents, oils, lubricants, and weak acids, and is not prone to aging. However, performance decreases in strong acid and strong alkali environments.

5. Mechanical properties and durability

High strength and toughness: The composite base fabric (usually meta-aramid woven fabric) enhances the pure felt's tensile, tear, and puncture resistance, making it more wear-resistant, durable, and longer-lasting.

Good flexibility: Despite high strength, it maintains good flexibility and processability, easy to cut and sew into various complex shapes.

6. Low smoke and low toxicity

Produces low smoke density and releases very few toxic gases when burning, meeting higher safety and environmental standards.

Applications of meta-aramid composite base fabric felt:

1. High-temperature insulation and protection

Industrial insulation: Used as insulation layers for high-temperature pipelines, furnaces, valves, and heat exchangers in metallurgy, chemical, glass, and ceramics industries.

Welding protection: Used to make welding blankets, protective clothing, and gloves to prevent sparks from igniting surrounding materials or burning skin.

Fireproof curtains/shutters: Used as fire separation materials in buildings and industrial sites.

2. High-temperature filtration

Industrial flue gas dust removal: Core material for high-temperature bag filters in cement plants, carbon black plants, steel mills, coal-fired boilers, capable of handling flue gas around 200°C.

Chemical process filtration: Filters high-temperature chemical gases or liquids.

3. Sealing and gasket materials

High-temperature sealing: Used for sealing gaskets and linings in engines, exhaust pipes, flanges, boiler doors, etc. Its flexibility can fill irregular surfaces, effectively preventing heat and medium leakage.

Friction materials: Can be used as reinforcement base materials for clutch plates and brake pads.

4. Personal protective equipment

Firefighting clothing: A key material for the outer layer and insulation layer of modern firefighting suits, providing primary fire and heat protection.

Industrial protective clothing: Provides protection against heat radiation, flames, and electric arcs for workers in steelmaking, welding, petrochemical, and other industries.

Racing suits and military uniforms: Also used in fields requiring fire protection.

5. Electrical insulation

Used for slot insulation, phase insulation, and lining insulation in electrical equipment such as motors, transformers, and generators, especially in parts that may generate high temperatures.
