Flame-retardant acrylic is used to spin flame-retardant home textiles and high-temperature resistant protective clothing.

Characteristics of Flame-Retardant Acrylic

1. Flame Retardancy

High Limiting Oxygen Index (LOI): Its LOI value is usually greater than 28% (ordinary acrylic is about 18%), and some models can even reach over 30%. This means a higher oxygen concentration in the air is required for combustion, making it difficult to ignite.

Self-Extinguishing: It can extinguish itself after being removed from the fire source, without continuous burning or smoldering.

Low Heat Release: Releases less heat during combustion, effectively slowing down the spread of fire.

2. High Safety

Low Smoke and Non-Toxic: Unlike some flame-retardant fibers that produce large amounts of toxic smoke when burning, high-quality flame-retardant acrylic emits low smoke and produces gases with low toxicity, increasing chances of escape during a fire.

No Melting Drips: It does not melt and drip like polyester or nylon fibers, preventing secondary burns caused by molten material sticking to the skin.

3. Retains the Advantages of Traditional Acrylic

Soft and Fluffy Feel: Comfortable to the touch, similar to wool, earning the reputation of "synthetic wool."

Good Dyeability: Bright colors, good colorfastness, and easy to dye into various vivid colors.

Strong Light and Weather Resistance: Excellent UV resistance, does not easily fade or age after long outdoor use, superior to most natural and other synthetic fibers.

Good Warmth Retention: The fluffy fiber structure traps air, providing good insulation.

Good Chemical Stability: High resistance to acids, oxidizers, and organic solvents.

4. Other Practical Properties

Durability: Its strong flame-retardant performance comes from the fiber's internal structure, making it resistant to washing and dry cleaning without losing effectiveness over time.

Good Comfort: Lightweight, comfortable to wear, non-itchy, suitable for close-to-skin wear.

Applications of Flame-Retardant Acrylic

1. Protective Clothing

Industrial Sector: Flame-retardant workwear and operational clothing for workers in petroleum, chemical, natural gas, electric power, metallurgy, and other industries.

Firefighting Sector: Linings for firefighters' clothing and rescue suits (usually used as an insulating comfort layer paired with outer flame-retardant fabrics).

Special Fields: Combat training uniforms for defense and police, armored vehicle lining clothing, etc.

Motor Racing: Fireproof racing suits, underwear, hoods, gloves for drivers and track staff.

2. Home and Public Decoration

High-end Flame-Retardant Home Textiles: Such as curtains, window screens, sofa fabrics, bedding, carpets, wall coverings, etc. Their soft feel and rich colors are ideal for high-end hotels, theaters, conference rooms, and other public places.

Children's and Elderly Products: Children's sleepwear, plush toys, elderly blankets, etc., which require very high safety standards.

3. Transportation

Seat covers, carpets, curtains, and other interior textiles for airplanes, high-speed trains, buses, etc., to meet strict fire safety standards.

4. Industrial Textiles

Used for making tents, outdoor advertising fabrics, car covers, and other products requiring flame retardancy and weather resistance.
