High-grammage PI flame-retardant felt used in the thermal insulation layer of firefighter protective clothing

Polyimide nonwoven fabric is a special fiber felt made from polyimide (PI) polymer materials through a non-woven process.
1. High-Temperature Resistance
Polyimide nonwoven fabric can operate stably at above 260°C for a long time and can withstand over 400°C for a short time.
It maintains excellent mechanical properties and dimensional stability at high temperatures.
High grammage provides good heat storage capacity and thermal barrier effect.
2. Heat Insulation/Thermal Insulation Performance
A material with a grammage of 1000 gsm is very thick and dense. This high thickness and density provide good thermal insulation performance.
It can effectively block high-temperature heat sources, reduce heat transfer, and protect personnel and equipment.
3. Low Thermal Conductivity
Polyimide itself has a low thermal conductivity, and the numerous pores in the nonwoven fabric structure further reduce the overall thermal conductivity. High grammage further enhances this insulation effect.
4. Flame Retardancy and Self-Extinguishing Property
Polyimide is flame retardant and has a high limiting oxygen index (usually >38%).
It does not melt or drip in flames; it only slowly carbonizes, forming a heat-insulating carbon layer that prevents the flame from spreading further.
It quickly self-extinguishes after being removed from the fire source.
5. Mechanical Strength and Durability
The high grammage of 1000 gsm provides high tear resistance, puncture resistance, and overall structural strength.
It can withstand certain mechanical stresses and wear.
6. Chemical Resistance
It has excellent resistance to most organic solvents (such as alcohols, ketones, hydrocarbons), oils, weak acids, and weak bases.
It has good hydrolysis resistance (stability is superior to other high-performance polymers in high-temperature and high-humidity environments).
7. Low Smoke and Low Toxicity
It produces very little smoke and toxic gases when decomposed or burned at high temperatures.
8. Electrical Insulation
It maintains good dielectric properties even at high temperatures.
9. Dimensional Stability
It has a low shrinkage rate in high-temperature environments and can maintain a stable shape and size.

Applications of Polyimide Nonwoven Fabric
High-Temperature Industrial Heat Insulation and Protection:
High-temperature equipment insulation wrapping layer: Insulation layer for boilers, kilns, high-temperature pipelines, reactors, heat exchangers, etc., to minimize heat loss and surface temperature, protect personnel safety, and improve energy efficiency.
Welding and high-temperature processing protection: Used as heavy-duty welding blankets, fire blankets, and spark baffles to protect surrounding equipment, the ground, and personnel from splashing molten metal, sparks, and strong radiant heat. 1000 gsm can withstand harsh welding environments (such as high-energy plasma cutting, large casting welding).
Molten metal processing protection: In the foundry and metallurgical industries, it is used to cover molten metal flow channels, ladles, or as a protective pad for operators.
Fire prevention partitions and sealing: In the shipbuilding, petrochemical, and power industries, it is used to make high-performance fire partitions, fire wall fillers, and cable penetration fire seals to provide good fire integrity.
Firefighting and safety protection equipment:
Insulation layer for professional firefighter fire protection suits: As the innermost or intermediate layer, it provides efficient and long-lasting protection against thermal radiation and conduction, protecting firefighters in extreme high-temperature fire scenes (usually needs to be used in combination with other layers).
Lining/filling layer for high-temperature protective clothing in special industries such as disaster relief and rescue and metallurgy.
Escape blanket/fire protection blanket: Thick and heavy, providing long-lasting high-temperature insulation protection.
Aerospace:
Engine compartment insulation: Protects surrounding structures from the effects of high engine temperatures.
Thermal shielding/fire barrier: Used in key areas such as the fuselage and bulkhead to prevent fire spread or isolate external high temperatures.
Special filtration (non-conventional applications):
Although the ultra-high grammage results in a large pressure drop, it may be used for coarse or special deep filtration in extreme high-temperature, corrosive gas environments, such as pretreatment of certain high-temperature flue gases or special particulate capture.
High-performance composite materials:
Used as ultra-thick preforms or core materials in composite layer structures requiring high heat insulation, flame retardancy, and high-temperature performance (such as aerospace and racing).
