Core Properties of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) Fiber
Ultra-High Tensile Strength
Strength is 15 times that of high-quality steel, 40% higher than aramid, and second only to premium carbon fiber in modulus.
Breaking strength can reach 30–50 cN/dtex, more than 3 times that of ordinary polyester sewing thread.
Strand strength is improved by more than 10% compared to single yarn, with better uniformity.
Lightweight and Low Density
Density is only 0.97–0.98 g/cm³, significantly reducing the weight of finished products.
Excellent Chemical and Environmental Stability
Resistant to saltwater, strong acids, strong alkalis, and corrosion from most chemical solvents.
UV resistant.
Outstanding Protective Performance
High wear resistance and cut resistance. Low coefficient of friction and high impact absorption energy.
Applications of Ultra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) Fiber
1. Industrial Protection
① Cut-resistant equipment
Short fiber yarns are made into gloves and protective clothing, which are highly wear-resistant and free from long fiber snagging problems.
Blending with polyester or nylon (such as UHMWPE/PET 90/10) can further improve strength and feel.
② High-strength sewing thread
Used for sewing leather goods, airbags, and bulletproof vests; strength is 2–3 times that of ordinary sewing thread.
2. Aerospace and Marine Engineering
① Aerospace parachute cords
Spacecraft return capsule parachute cords (including UHMWPE fiber) can withstand 60 tons of tensile force.
② Deep-sea cables and nets
Corrosion-resistant and hydrolysis-resistant, used for ship mooring and aquaculture net cages; lifespan far exceeds steel cables and nylon.
3. Sports and Civil Applications
High-performance ski suits, sailboat ropes, fishing lines, etc., combining lightweight and high reliability.
