Aramid flame-retardant fabric
Aramid flame-retardant fabrics (usually referring to meta-aramid, such as Nomex®, domestic aramid 1313, etc., sometimes also including para-aramid such as Kevlar®/Twaron® flame-retardant applications) are used in fields with extremely high fire safety requirements due to their excellent high-temperature resistance, flame retardancy, thermal stability, electrical insulation, and superior mechanical properties.
Protective equipment
Firefighting suits : This is one of the most core applications. Aramid fabrics can withstand extremely high flame temperatures (decomposition temperature of about 400°C, limiting oxygen index LOI ≥28%), forming a carbonized protective layer to isolate heat, effectively protecting firefighters from flames, high-temperature steam, and thermal radiation. A multi-layer structure (outer layer, waterproof breathable layer, heat insulation layer) is usually adopted.
Industrial protective clothing : Used in industries where welders, petrochemical workers, metallurgical workers, power workers (arc flash protection), race car drivers, etc., face risks such as high temperatures, sparks, molten metal splashes, and electric arcs. It provides heat insulation, flame retardancy, arc protection, and a certain degree of chemical corrosion protection.
Combat uniforms : Provides flame-retardant, wear-resistant, and tear-resistant protection, especially suitable for armored vehicle crew and soldiers/police who may face the threat of incendiary weapons.
Racing suits : The core material of top racing suits, requiring extremely high flame-retardant performance and a certain degree of tear resistance and impact resistance, protecting drivers from flame burns in accidents.
Firefighting equipment
Fire blanket : Used in homes, laboratories, factories, etc., to extinguish small initial fires or wrap the human body for emergency escape.
Escape routes/slides : As a material for emergency escape routes or slides in buildings with high safety requirements (such as airplanes, ships, high-rise buildings).
Fire hose lining/covering : Enhances the wear resistance, pressure resistance, and flame retardancy of fire hoses.
Interior protection
Aircraft interiors : Seat fabrics, side panels, carpets, curtains, partitions, luggage rack linings, etc.
High-speed rail/EMU interiors : Seat fabrics, curtains, carpets, etc., also require high flame retardancy and low smoke and toxicity.
Ship interiors : Seats, curtains, carpets, etc., in cabins and public areas, meet maritime safety standards.
Automotive interiors (high-end/special purpose) : Racing seats, interior fabrics of special vehicles (such as fire trucks), engine compartment heat shields, etc.
Public transportation interiors : Such as seat fabrics for subways and buses (in areas or lines with high flame retardancy requirements).
Industrial filtration
High-temperature filter materials : Used in bag dust collectors in the cement, steel, metallurgy, chemical, and garbage incineration industries. Aramid's excellent high-temperature resistance (long-term use 180-200°C, instantaneous up to 240°C), flame retardancy, and chemical corrosion resistance make it an ideal choice for high-temperature flue gas filtration.
Insulation materials : Insulation layers for high-temperature pipes and equipment, welding protective blankets, high-temperature gloves/pads, etc.
Conveyor belts : Used in conveyor belts for high-temperature material transportation or those requiring flame-retardant properties (such as mines).
Sealing materials : Sealing gaskets, packings, etc., in high-temperature, high-pressure, and corrosive environments.
Electrical insulation
Motor/transformer insulation materials : Aramid paper (Nomex® Paper) is an important insulation material for high-performance motors (such as traction motors, wind turbines, variable frequency motors), dry-type transformers, reactors, cables, etc., providing excellent electrical insulation, high-temperature resistance, and flame retardancy.
Circuit board substrate: Used in high-frequency, high-performance printed circuit boards.
Other protection
Protective tents/tarpaulins: Special fields, fire fighting, etc., where temporary fire protection is needed.
Household textiles (High-end/special needs): Such as flame-retardant curtains (theaters, hotels), flame-retardant bedding (hospitals, nursing homes), etc., but the high cost limits their popularity.
Composite material reinforcement : Composite with other resins, used in parts requiring lightweight, high strength, high modulus, and flame-retardant properties (such as aerospace, sports equipment).
