Polyimide nonwoven fabric vs. aramid 1414 nonwoven fabric: Which one has better flame retardancy, fire resistance, and high-temperature resistance?

Polyimide nonwoven fabric vs. aramid 1414 nonwoven fabric

Polyimide nonwoven fabric has stronger flame retardant, fire-resistant, and high-temperature resistant properties than aramid 1414 nonwoven fabric.

After being burned by a lighter flame, the surface of the polyimide nonwoven fabric only showed some carbonization and blackening, but there was no shedding or fiber loss. When touched by hand, it can be found that the surface of the polyimide nonwoven fabric has little change after burning compared to before burning.

Similarly, after being burned by a lighter, the aramid 1414 nonwoven fabric showed obvious carbonization, accompanied by the emission of black smoke. When touched by hand, it was found that the part burned by the open flame could be easily peeled off.

Polyimide (PI)

High-temperature resistance: Long-term resistance > 300°C, instantaneous temperature resistance up to 500°C+ (no deformation at high temperatures)

Flame retardancy: Self-extinguishing after leaving the fire, limiting oxygen index (LOI) ≥38%, lower smoke density, safer

Lightweight: Ultra-low density, flexible and easy to process, resistant to chemical corrosion and aging

Applications: Spacecraft heat shield, lithium battery fireproof diaphragm, special protective clothing

Aramid 1414 nonwoven fabric (para-aramid)

High-temperature resistance: Long-term use 200-250°C, short-term resistance to 400°C

Flame retardancy: LOI≥28%, high strength tear resistance, wear resistance, and cut resistance

Mechanical properties: Strength is 5 times that of steel wire! Excellent impact resistance

Applications: Firefighting suits, military and police training equipment, high-temperature industrial filter materials

Polyimide Nonwoven Fabric

✅ High-temperature endurance: Polyimide > Aramid 1414

✅ Flame resistance: Both are self-extinguishing, polyimide has a higher limiting oxygen index

Aramid 1414 Nonwoven Fabric

✅ Physical defense: Aramid 1414 is tear and wear resistant, suitable for dynamic protection scenarios

✅ Cost-effectiveness: Aramid 1414 is more cost-effective, polyimide is specialized for extreme environments
