Pre-oxidized filament woven fabric is used to manufacture fire-retardant curtains and fire barriers.

Pre-oxidized filament woven fabric is made from polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers. After pre-oxidation treatment at temperatures ranging from 200 to 300°C, the fibers undergo shortening, spinning into yarns, and then are processed through multiple steps—including machine weaving—to produce the final fabric.
Characteristics of pre-oxidized silk woven fabric:
1. Excellent flame-retardant and fire-resistant properties
Pre-oxidized silk fabrics have a very high limiting oxygen index (LOI), typically exceeding 45% (while the oxygen content in air is about 21%). This means that under normal atmospheric conditions, they are highly resistant to ignition. When directly exposed to flame, unlike conventional synthetic fibers that tend to melt and drip, these fabrics do not melt or drip—they rapidly char, forming a dense, insulating carbon layer that effectively blocks oxygen from reaching the interior and prevents further heat buildup, thereby achieving “self-extinguishing” behavior.
2. Excellent high-temperature resistance and thermal stability
Preoxidized carbon fiber boasts a wide temperature tolerance range. It can be used continuously at temperatures between 250 and 300°C without any significant degradation in performance, and can briefly withstand extremely high temperatures of up to 500–600°C for several minutes. At high temperatures, its physical form and strength retention are far superior to those of materials such as aramid fibers and flame-retardant cotton, making it an ideal material for use in extreme thermal environments like fire scenes.
3. Stable chemical and physical properties
Chemical resistance: Exhibits excellent resistance to most acids, bases, organic solvents, and other chemicals, maintaining stable performance even in harsh chemical environments.
Electrical insulation: It has a high volume resistivity and is an excellent insulating material.
Dimensional stability: It is resistant to shrinkage and deformation even in high-temperature or humid environments, ensuring that the fabric maintains its shape and dimensions.
Non-toxic and environmentally friendly: The smoke produced during combustion or high-temperature decomposition is extremely low in toxicity and does not release highly toxic gases such as hydrogen cyanide.
4. Good textile processability
Pre-oxidized silk woven fabric retains the soft and lightweight characteristics of textile materials, allowing it to be cut and sewn into fabrics of various specifications. Moreover, it offers excellent flexibility and comfort when worn.
This material exhibits excellent textile processing properties, resulting in fabrics that are lightweight, soft, and highly absorbent. It can be used for pure spinning or blended with other fibers to produce a wide variety of products and industrial materials.
Applications of pre-oxidized silk woven fabrics:
Thanks to its outstanding performance, preoxidized filament woven fabrics are widely used in various fields and have become one of the indispensable materials in modern industry and specialized protective applications.
1. Personal Protective Equipment field
Pre-oxidized silk woven fabric is used to manufacture flame-retardant and fire-resistant garments as well as specialized combat uniforms. Thanks to its outstanding flame-retardant performance, thermal stability, and comfort, this fabric is an ideal protective material for workers in high-risk industries such as firefighters, petrochemical workers, and power maintenance personnel. Particularly noteworthy is that the flame-retardant properties of protective garments made from pre-oxidized silk woven fabric remain unchanged even after prolonged soaking and washing. This unique feature significantly extends the service life of the protective garments and reduces their overall usage costs. Meanwhile, special operations forces also employ this material to produce protective clothing, providing military personnel with reliable battlefield protection.
2. Transportation sector
In the aerospace industry, this material is used in components such as aircraft interiors, seats, and brake pads to enhance the fire safety performance of aircraft. In the automotive manufacturing sector, it is employed in thermal insulation layers for battery packs in new-energy vehicles, thermal insulation materials for engine compartments, and fire-retardant interior trims in high-end cars—thereby improving vehicle safety while also meeting lightweight design requirements. With the rapid development of electric vehicles, the demand for fire safety in battery systems is steadily increasing, and pre-oxidized filament woven fabrics hold great promise for application in this field.
3. Architecture and Infrastructure Sector
In high-rise buildings, subways, tunnels, and other similar environments, this material is used to manufacture fire curtains, fire partitions, and fire-resistant coatings, effectively preventing the spread of fires and buying precious time for evacuation. In particular, in energy storage stations and power facilities, pre-oxidized filament woven fabrics are employed for fire isolation of battery modules and fire-resistant coating of cable trays, significantly enhancing the overall safety level of these energy infrastructure systems.
4. Industrial Manufacturing Sector
Pre-oxidized filament woven fabrics are used to manufacture packing (sealing gaskets), prefabricated components, and high-performance filtration materials. In industrial environments characterized by high temperatures and pressures, packing made from pre-oxidized filament woven fabrics exhibits excellent sealing performance and durability. Moreover, in specialized chemical environments, their corrosion-resistant properties ensure the long-term stable operation of filtration materials. Additionally, this material can also be used to produce industrial components such as high-temperature conveyor belts and thermal insulation gaskets, meeting the demands of a wide range of special operating conditions.
