Para-aramid spunlace nonwoven fabric used as sealing gaskets for high-temperature applications.

Para-aramid spunlace nonwoven fabric is a high-performance nonwoven material produced by using a high-pressure spunlace process to interlock and reinforce short para-aramid fibers. Thanks to the soft, porous structure created by the spunlace process, this material exhibits unique performance in fields such as specialized protection, high-temperature filtration, and composite materials.

Characteristics of aramid spunlace nonwoven fabric:

1. Flame-retardant, fire-resistant, and high-temperature resistant

It exhibits excellent high-temperature resistance, flame retardancy, and thermal stability, with a long-term use temperature of approximately 180°C. When exposed to fire, it does not melt but only chars. Its structure remains dimensionally stable at high temperatures and features low thermal shrinkage.

2. Chemical corrosion resistance

Chemically stable and resistant to most organic solvents; it can be further processed (e.g., laminating, co-extrusion) to impart specific functions such as water repellency, oil repellency, and enhanced filtration performance.

3. Soft and breathable fabric

Overall, it’s fluffy, porous, and soft, with a tender texture and a comfortable feel—gentle on the skin and non-irritating. It also boasts a high specific surface area and excellent breathability.

4. High strength and high modulus

With its high specific strength, the fluffy structure of this material can efficiently disperse, absorb, and dissipate point impact forces (such as punctures and cuts), making it an ideal energy-absorbing material.

Applications of aramid spunlace nonwoven fabric:

1. Specialized personal protective equipment field

In stab-resistant and bulletproof vests, it is often used as a critical cushioning and energy-absorbing layer. When struck by a sharp object or a blunt instrument, its fluffy three-dimensional fiber network rapidly disperses the concentrated impact energy over a larger area through fiber stretching, friction, and slippage at entanglement points, converting the energy into other forms such as thermal energy and dissipating it accordingly. This not only effectively prevents penetration by sharp weapons but also significantly reduces non-penetrating injuries—commonly referred to as "blunt trauma." Meanwhile, in fire-fighting suits, specialized military uniforms, and welder’s protective clothing, it serves as an insulating and comfortable layer. The aramid nature of the material provides a stable high-temperature resistance and flame-retardant barrier, while the still-air layers trapped within its fluffy structure further enhance its thermal insulation performance. Additionally, its softness greatly improves the wearing comfort of heavy-duty protective garments.

2. High Temperatures and Industrial Filtration Field

Leveraging its properties of high-temperature resistance, chemical corrosion resistance, high specific surface area, and controllable structure, it is used to fabricate high-performance filtration materials. In the treatment of high-temperature, highly corrosive flue gases generated by coal-fired power plants, waste-to-energy incinerators, and cement kilns, filter bags made from this material can operate stably over long periods, efficiently capturing ultrafine particulate matter such as PM2.5. Its fiber surfaces are smooth, giving it excellent dust-cleaning performance. Moreover, by precisely controlling fiber fineness and web uniformity, this material can also be employed as an ultra-efficient air filtration medium for high-end cleanrooms and precision electronics manufacturing facilities, effectively trapping airborne dust particles.

3. High-end industrial sector

Used as sealing gaskets and thermal insulation linings for high-temperature applications, serving engines and heavy machinery; employed as a reinforcing fiber layer in high-performance brake pads and clutch discs to enhance the stability, heat resistance, and service life of friction materials; also suitable for use in the electronics and electrical industries as insulating materials with stringent requirements.
