Polyimide fiber sheets are used in cold-resistant clothing for environments such as mountain climbing and expeditions.

Polyimide fiber fleece is a nonwoven fabric made by processing short polyimide fibers through high-temperature needle-punching and other techniques. Unlike woven fabrics, it’s created by randomly interlacing and compressing countless ultra-short polyimide fibers—much like the way paper is formed—resulting in a fluffy, soft, lightweight, sheet-like insulation material.

Characteristics of Polyimide Fiber Sheets

Excellent heat resistance and fire protection

Inherently flame-retardant: It’s naturally resistant to fire. When exposed to an open flame, it merely chars—without actually burning—and immediately goes out once removed from the heat source. Unlike ordinary down or synthetic fibers, it will never catch fire and spread flames.

High-temperature resistance: It can operate continuously at high temperatures ranging from 250°C to 300°C, and instantly withstand even higher temperatures exceeding 500°C. Such "over-spec" performance is completely unnecessary for everyday use.

Excellent thermal insulation

Its fibrous structure traps vast amounts of still air, creating an effective insulation layer with an extremely low thermal conductivity. This results in outstanding warmth retention—so efficient that it can even match or surpass the performance of high-quality down padding of comparable thickness.

Outstanding stability

Water-repellent and moisture-resistant: It doesn’t absorb water itself, ensuring it stays dry and fluffy even in humid environments—plus, its insulation performance won’t decline as dramatically as down does.

Chemically resistant: Exhibits excellent resistance to chemicals such as acids, bases, and oils, and is highly resistant to aging.

Antimicrobial and mildew-resistant: The material itself does not provide an environment conducive to microbial growth, making it naturally antibacterial, mold-proof, and pest-resistant—plus, it’s less likely to develop unpleasant odors.

Lightweight and safe

Lightweight: Extremely lightweight, ensuring it won’t add any extra burden to your clothing.

Health and eco-friendly: The production process requires no dyeing, leaves no harmful residues, is non-irritating to human skin, and also boasts antistatic properties.

Mechanical Properties and Durability

Polyimide fiber sheets exhibit high tensile strength and excellent resilience. They also boast remarkable abrasion resistance, washability, and aging durability, ensuring the extended lifespan of garments.

Applications of Polyimide Fiber Sheets

1. Specialized Protective Clothing

Firefighting Gear: Firefighters' protective clothing must provide reliable protection in extreme heat and flame environments. Polyimide fiber sheets exhibit excellent flame-retardant and high-temperature resistance—they char when exposed to flames without dripping or melting—meeting both domestic and international fire industry standards for fabric performance in high-temperature tests. This ensures firefighters stay warm and safe while tackling fires in cold conditions.

Extreme Cold-Weather Workwear: Protective clothing designed for personnel working in polar expeditions and high-altitude, frigid regions. Its exceptional thermal insulation effectively shields workers from the harmful effects of extreme low temperatures.

Industrial high-temperature protective clothing: For workers in industries such as metallurgy, casting, and glass processing—where exposure to high temperatures or flying sparks is common—protective garments filled with polyimide fiber padding provide an additional insulation layer, significantly reducing the risk of burns.

2. High-end civilian outdoor and thermal clothing

Professional extreme outdoor gear: Cold-resistant clothing designed for use in harsh environments such as snow mountain climbing and polar expeditions, providing reliable life protection.

High-end fashion cold-weather wear: Designed to create lightweight, non-bulky down jackets, cotton-padded coats, and outerwear, ensuring your winter wardrobe combines both style and warmth.

Specialized cold-weather workwear: Providing lightweight yet sufficiently warm garments for personnel who need to work outdoors in cold conditions—such as sanitation workers and traffic police—enhancing both comfort and safety on the job.

Other specialized equipment: It can also be used to make sleeping bags, tents, and more, comprehensively enhancing the warmth and comfort of your outdoor adventures.

3. Industrial High-Temperature Filtration

Polyimide fiber sheets are highly resistant to high temperatures, possess high strength and lightweight properties, exhibit excellent thermal stability, and offer superior filtration performance along with outstanding particle retention rates.

It can be used to manufacture high-temperature-resistant polyimide thermal air filtration components, which are suitable for treating high-temperature flue gases in industries such as steel plants, thermal power plants, mines, and other sectors that generate high-temperature, highly polluting particulates. For instance, these components serve as filter materials in baghouse dust collectors used for tail gas treatment in areas like cement production, thermal power generation, metal smelting, and waste incineration.

4. Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and the Automotive Industry

Electronics and Electricals: Polyimide fibers exhibit excellent electrical insulation properties, with a low and stable dielectric constant. They can be used to manufacture electronic components, IC packaging materials, machine housings, and more, helping to enhance the lifespan and reliability of electronic products.

Automotive Industry: It can be used for vehicle body structural materials, interior trim components, engine hoods, and more, helping to reduce the overall weight of cars while enhancing driving stability and protective performance. Additionally, its high-temperature resistance and flame-retardant properties further elevate the safety standards of automobiles.
