Flame-retardant, fire-resistant gray-backed felt used as thermal and sound insulation padding for engine compartments.

The flame-retardant, fire-resistant gray-backed felt is a high-performance composite material that integrates safety protection, shock absorption, sealing, and convenient installation into one. It is made from pre-oxidized special fiber fire-retardant felt as its base material and is produced by laminating a high-temperature, double-sided adhesive layer onto it. Kaidun Industrial not only manufactures and sells gray-backed felt but also offers custom-made options, including a variety of sized backing strips and sealing strips.

1. Flame Retardancy and Fire Safety

The flame-retardant, fire-resistant gray-backed felt uses materials such as pre-oxidized polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers—materials that inherently possess flame-resistant properties—in the production stage. This material achieves self-extinguishing upon removal from the flame. During combustion, it produces no molten droplets, emits low smoke, and releases no toxic gases, thereby minimizing secondary hazards caused by fires to the greatest extent possible.

2. Shock absorption, sound insulation, and sealing performance

The dense, felt-like fiber structure gives the product exceptional vibration absorption and noise-control capabilities. It can effectively isolate and attenuate structural transmission of vibrations and noise generated during equipment operation or vehicle movement, making it particularly suitable for applications with stringent requirements for noise, vibration, and acoustic roughness. At the same time, the material itself possesses a certain degree of elasticity and resilience, enabling it to fill and bridge larger assembly gaps, providing excellent sealing and dust-proof performance while also cushioning impacts and friction between components.

3. Highly effective and firmly adhesive backing glue

The product features a double-sided adhesive design on its back, enabling quick and reliable installation. The adhesive boasts strong bonding power and high adhesion strength, allowing it to firmly adhere to various material surfaces, such as metal, plastic, and glass. It exhibits excellent conformability, easily adapting to diverse curved and complex contours, ensuring full-contact adhesion even in areas with uneven surfaces or curves, thus eliminating the risk of edge lifting. Typically, the adhesive is coated onto a PET (polyester) release liner; simply peel off the liner before use, greatly simplifying the installation process.

4. Environmental Tolerance and Durability

It boasts excellent moisture resistance, maintaining stable adhesion and physical properties even in humid environments. At the same time, the material exhibits outstanding resistance to aging and chemical corrosion, effectively resisting the erosion of certain oils and chemicals, thereby extending its service life.

Application areas of flame-retardant, fire-resistant gray-backed felt:

1. Transportation vehicles

In automotive manufacturing, thermal and acoustic insulation pads used in areas such as the engine compartment, door panels, floor, pillars, and trunk effectively block engine heat and road noise, enhancing driving and passenger comfort. These pads are also employed for wire harness penetration sealing and as vibration-damping pads for components, achieving the dual objectives of vibration reduction, noise suppression, and fire safety.

In the fields of rail transit and marine vessels, it is used for fire-resistant and sound-insulating applications in interior carriages and equipment compartments, as well as for thermal insulation of ship bulkheads, meeting their stringent fire safety regulations.

2. Electrical and Electronic Equipment & Industrial Devices

In both household and commercial appliances, these components are installed inside air conditioners, washing machines, refrigerators, audio systems, server cabinets, and other electrical devices as sound-absorbing and thermal-insulating materials or as vibration-damping gaskets for key components. They help reduce operational noise and enhance the fire safety rating of these appliances.

In industrial machinery, protective covers used for sealing pumps, motors, fans, and other industrial equipment absorb mechanical vibrations, prevent noise from spreading, and also serve as thermal insulation padding for the equipment housings.

3. Architecture and Interior Decoration

In terms of public spaces, this includes flame-retardant decorative materials suitable for hotels, cinemas, conference rooms, and other public venues; fire-resistant door seals; fireproof sealing of pipe penetrations through walls; and auxiliary materials for fireproof coating of steel structures.

In terms of architectural construction, it can be used as a sandwich layer in lightweight walls and prefabricated buildings, providing thermal insulation, soundproofing, and fire resistance. Its adhesive properties make it particularly well-suited for the manufacture and sealing of flexible connections for air ducts and flexible pipe joints, enabling compensation for displacement and effectively isolating vibration transmission.
