Pre-oxidized silk aramid blended woven fabric is a high-performance textile material used in specialized protective applications, combining the unique advantages of two types of high-performance fibers. Pre-oxidized silk, formally known as pre-oxidation fiber, refers to polyacrylonitrile fibers that undergo partial cyclization during an air-oxidation process under specific high-temperature conditions—typically between 200°C and 300°C. This intermediate product serves as a precursor for manufacturing carbon fibers and usually appears black in color. These fibers exhibit exceptional heat resistance, with a limiting oxygen index ranging from 40 to 60 and a decomposition temperature no lower than 640°C. Meanwhile, aramid fibers are a class of aromatic polyamide organic fibers, including para-aramid (Aramid 1414) and meta-aramid (Aramid 1313), both of which inherently possess outstanding thermal stability and mechanical strength.

Characteristics of pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabric:

1. High-Temperature Resistance and Flame Retardancy

The pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabric can withstand long-term use at temperatures exceeding 600°C, with instantaneous heat resistance reaching up to 1000°C. This exceptional performance is primarily attributed to the unique structure of the pre-oxidized fibers, which serve as an intermediate product in the production of carbon fibers. Under high-temperature conditions, these fibers form a dense carbonized layer that effectively insulates against heat transfer, preventing flames from spreading. Moreover, the pre-oxidized fibers themselves boast an impressive limiting oxygen index (LOI) of 40–60, significantly higher than the standard for most flame-retardant materials (typically, LOI > 26 qualifies a material as flame-resistant). At elevated temperatures, this material exhibits self-extinguishing properties—meaning it will automatically put out once removed from the ignition source—without producing molten droplets. Compared to pure pre-oxidized fiber fabrics, incorporating aramid fibers not only preserves the material’s outstanding thermal resistance but also enhances its flexibility and comfort, making it more suitable for wearability.

2. Mechanical Strength and Durability

Compared to pure pre-oxidized filament yarns, blended yarns significantly enhance thread strength by incorporating aramid fibers, while also improving wear resistance and comfort characteristics. This enhanced performance ensures that the fabric maintains its structural integrity even under extreme conditions, resisting damage even when subjected to mechanical stress—thus greatly extending its service life. Moreover, the blended fabric exhibits excellent dimensional stability, remaining resistant to shrinkage or deformation in high-temperature or humid environments, thereby preserving its original shape and size. The fabric’s durability is further highlighted by its outstanding fatigue resistance, allowing it to retain both its protective properties and mechanical strength—even after repeated use and washing.

3. Chemical Stability and Safety Features

Pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabric exhibits excellent resistance to most inorganic acids and other chemicals, while also demonstrating outstanding hydrolysis resistance and steam corrosion protection. In terms of safety performance, this material boasts superior electrical insulation properties, making it ideal for protective applications in high-voltage power environments—effectively preventing arc flash and electric shock incidents.

4. Other application-related features

In terms of thermal protection performance, this material boasts low thermal conductivity, effectively blocking heat transfer and providing reliable insulation. For tasks that involve contact with high-temperature objects or environments, its exceptional insulation properties can buy users valuable escape time, significantly reducing the risk of burns.

The material boasts excellent softness and wearability, offering flexibility that makes it easy to craft into a variety of garments and protective items.

The material is highly processable—pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics can be easily cut and sewn using conventional techniques, allowing them to be crafted into protective products of various shapes and structures. Additionally, the fabric can undergo a range of post-treatment processes, such as aluminum foil lamination, further enhancing its protective performance or adding functional capabilities. This excellent processability ensures that the fabric can flexibly meet the customized needs of diverse users.

Applications of pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics:

1. Specialized Protective Clothing Field

In the field of firefighting and fire suppression, this material is used to manufacture professional equipment such as firefighter suits and rescue gear. Its outstanding high-temperature resistance and flame-retardant properties effectively protect firefighters from flames and extreme heat during firefighting operations. Meanwhile, the pre-oxidized aramid blended fabric not only maintains superior protective performance but also helps reduce the weight of the garments, enhancing both wearing comfort and operational flexibility.

In environments such as the petrochemical, power industry, and laboratories, pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics are also used in a variety of protective garments, including arc-flash suits and flame-retardant workwear. These industries often face risks like explosions, electric arcs, and chemical leaks, making specialized protective clothing essential for safeguarding workers.

Specialized protective gear, used to create a variety of specialized military uniforms and protective equipment, leverages its exceptional properties—such as high heat resistance, flame retardancy, and superior mechanical strength—to provide comprehensive protection for military personnel.

2. Industry and High-Tech Fields

In the automotive industry, high-temperature protective components are used, such as battery separators, high-voltage wiring harness insulation materials, and other heat-resistant products.

In the field of structural reinforcement, pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics are used for strengthening and repairing building structures. This composite material boasts advantages such as lightweight, high strength, and excellent corrosion resistance, effectively enhancing a building's load-bearing capacity and seismic performance. At the same time, it is easy to install and does not significantly increase the structure's self-weight.

In the sports equipment sector, pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics are used to manufacture high-performance athletic gear, such as protective helmets and professional sports shoes.

In the advanced audio field, pre-oxidized silk-aromatic polyamide blended fabric is used to manufacture cone components, leveraging its stable physical properties and weather resistance to enhance both the sound quality and longevity of audio products.

3. Other Emerging Application Areas

In the field of personal protective equipment, pre-oxidized aramid blended woven fabrics are used to manufacture various types of protective gloves, headgear, shoe covers, and other accessories.

In the transportation sector, this material is used for interior materials and seat fabrics in vehicles such as ships, high-speed trains, and aircraft, helping to enhance the fire safety standards of these modes of transport.

In the thermoelectric industry, pre-oxidized aramid blended fabrics are used to manufacture industrial protective products such as high-temperature pipe insulation sleeves and equipment thermal shields, effectively preventing heat loss and ensuring personnel safety, thereby supporting the safe and efficient operation of industrial production.
